Three Late Arrivals

Squeaking through on deadline day, we welcome three new Blades:

Rob Holding – on loan from Crystal Palace

After a busy month of transfer business, boss Chris Wilder stated he was thrilled at adding an experienced defensive option to his ranks. "We've been light in the central defensive area ever since Harry Souttar's injury, so we're delighted to add Rob, a player who has played the game at the highest level for a number of years. It is the last remaining piece of the jigsaw and whilst we have had to wait until deadline day to get this one boxed off, I think our patience has been justified by getting Rob over the line. He's played in some huge games during his time in the Premier League, so he'll relish the situation he's walking into. He'll compete with the likes of Anel, Jack and others, and joins a squad which is looking far healthier than the one we had at the start of the window, as we look to attack the remaining part of the season."

During his time with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Holding also won the Community Shield three times and played in the Champions League and Europa League for the Gunners. He joined Crystal Palace in 2023 signing a three-year deal.

Holding said: "It's been a long day but it is well worth it, I'm happy to be here. I had a quick word with the gaffer and I'm excited with the project he's got going on here, it is a good environment to be in. It is a fresh start, I'm looking for a bit of consistency with games and see what happens in the second half of the season."

Christian Nwachukwu – signed from Botev Plovdiv, Bulgaria

Boss Chris Wilder said: "Christian joins the club after being identified through our new data driven transfer strategy. We are discovering something new here and it may take time before we see some results, but we're open to the new methods and we're looking forward to working with Christian, and others, to see how far we can go with it."

Nigerian-born Nwachukwu played a part in Botev Plovdiv's Bulgarian Cup win last season, and during the current campaign enjoyed Europa League experience before departing the competition in the second qualifying round following defeat over two legs against Panathinaikos. He commented: "I'm looking forward to coming to Sheffield to play for United and continue my development, I look forward to meeting the lads and getting started."

Jefferson Cáceres – signed from FBC Melgar, Peru

Another player identified through United's data driven transfer strategy and boss Chris Wilder commented: "With the collaborative way we work with regards signings, the options available to the club under the new ownership allows us to cast our net further afield. I've spoken previously about how we are looking to be more data driven with some of our targets, and we have explored the use of this to find players which were previously not on our radar. Jefferson has been identified using this strategy, he's a young lad who we're keen to develop."

Arriving in Sheffield on Monday, Jefferson commented: "I am pleased to be joining Sheffield United and I am looking forward to my next challenge."

Looks like we'll have to be brushing up on some new languages!
