Plymouth 2 - 1 Sheffield United

Ho hum – another rather dreary match and an underwhelming result!


The Blades’ nightmare week ended with yet another defeat – third in three consecutive games – against Plymouth who are bottom of the league! Both Leeds Utd and Burnley won their matches so we’re almost certainly resigned to a play-off place.

The game went back and forth in the first half, with both teams attempting shots but always coming to nothing. Then just before half time, Gus Hamer played a lovely cross to Jesurun Rak-Sakyi who shot a lovely curling effort into the top corner. So, although it had been a frustrating performance, it was a moment of quality.



After the break, the Blades really lost control and there were some really sloppy give-aways, passing balls straight to Plymouth players on several occasions. And so Plymouth decided to capitalise on these awful mistakes, firstly from a corner when the Blades failed to clear the ball, allowing Ryan Hardie to fire home straight past Michael Cooper.

This equaliser was a big goal for Plymouth, but a draw really wasn’t any good to either side – one chasing promotion, one trying to avoid relegation. Then there was some really awful play by the Blades – Callum O’Hare lost the ball to Bali Mumba who passed the ball into the box. Jack Robinson failed to deal with it and as the ball went up, Muhamed Tijani volleyed it home, once again giving Michael Cooper no chance.

There were 7 minutes of stoppage time but the Blades could not create any more significant chances and the players looked quite shell-shocked after such a turnaround.

So down to third in the League and five points behind Burnley and Leeds Utd . . . I think the maths says it all . . . although it ain’t over until the fat lady sings after the last 4 matches of the season!
