Sheffield United v Preston North End
Apr. 26th, 2026 04:55 pmThe final home game of this season saw, unfortunately, another defeat; and it was another dispiriting performance, I’m afraid!
It was a lovely, sunny day – nice to be wearing a t-shirt rather than thermals! But even that couldn’t make up for an awful performance. Two-nil down at half time, and although we clawed back one goal via a penalty from Gus Hamer:

and a second from Patrick Bamford:

poor defending, a very weak midfield and what seemed to be a complete lack of interest from the players meant a second defeat in a week. (My neighbour said, perhaps someone should ring the players and tell them there’s a match today!).
The supporters’ frustration was clear with audible boos at half time and full time and the promised “lap of appreciation” by the players after the game was extremely tame, since a good two thirds of supporters had left mid-way through the second half, and far from being a “lap”, it was a half-hearted acknowledgement of two stands out of four! I was pretty disgusted that they didn’t come anywhere near our section of the ground, as if we just didn’t count at all …
So there’s just one more match this season, away at Derby next Saturday, but I don’t really feel optimistic about our chances! As to the future, well, who knows? We’ll see what the summer brings! Still, there’ll be an ‘away’ trip to Lincoln City and we may very well be playing against either West Ham or Tottenham!
I’ll probably write one more report, if the players turn up next week (!), but thanks anyway to everyone reading and commenting – it’s much appreciated.
